SEGA announces the Astro City Mini Arcade Machine!

If the Game Gear Micro wasn’t for you, maybe the latest addition to SEGA’s line up might be – the SEGA Astro City Mini.

The Astro City (the full size one) is an arcade machine from some years ago, released in 1993 by SEGA. It featured a 29″ screen, and was part of their City range of machines. It’s still a common machine to see in Japanese arcades to this day. With the minified version, we have a few details so far.

Games Watch have listed the following games for the Mini machine:

  • Alien Syndrome
  • Alien Storm
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
  • Columns II
  • Dark Edge
  • Puzzle & Action: Tant-R
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Altered Beast

In total, there is to be 36 games, and Sega have stated that the new Mini uses real microswitches, has a HDMI out to connect to your TV, USB ports (one used to power it), and  a headphone jack… That’s pretty impressive!

Out of the games announced so far, one in particular stands out. Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder – as it has never been released outside of the arcades. While currently there no word on a release outside of Japan, it is priced at 12,800 yen (around $118 / £95 / €105).
